With the holiday season fast approaching, many families have a road trip or two in their future. If this includes your family, you might be wondering how you are going to get through it all. Never fear! We are here to help with this simple road trip survival guide.
- Leave early. Traffic during the holidays, both around Thanksgiving and Christmas, can be horrendous. Leave early in the morning to avoid much of it and try to plan your drive so you don’t hit any big cities during rush hour.
- Stop often. If you are traveling with young kids, you will need to plan for frequent stops. This will give everyone a potty break and some time to get out their wiggles. Even just a run around a rest stop lobby can help.
- Bring some fun. Pack lots of entertainment options. If your car is equipped with a DVD system, let each kid choose a movie or two to bring. You can also play road trip games like I Spy and the Picnic Game.
- Snacks, snacks, and more snacks. One way to keep restless kids happy is with snacks. Avoid sugary snacks, which will spike their energy, and things that will leave behind sticky fingers. Sliced fruit, nuts, cheese sticks, and hard-boiled eggs are great, healthy options.
