Exciting updates coming to the 2021 Silverado HD

The Silverado 2500 HD may have just been completely redesigned for the 2020 model year; however, it is already getting some exciting updates for 2021. These additions include new standard features, newly available options, and new packages. You can expect it to arrive at ELCO Chevrolet later this year.

Previously, the Work Truck trim level came with no storage options in its front bench seat. In 2021, the bench seat has been updated with covered armrest storage. The Work Truck and Custom trim levels also get two USB ports instead of just one.

An available option for most trim levels is an auto-dimming rearview mirror, which includes an innovative feature that gives you a small video display of the truck bed. You can access this with a Bed View Camera on the high-mounted brake light.

If you are looking for ways to make your Silverado 2500 HD stand out from the crowd, the 2021 model will be available with a wide range of new packages and special edition models. The Midnight Edition will come with blacked-out styling, including 18-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels. As the name implies, the Z71 Chrome Sport Edition adds chrome exterior details like a chrome skid plate along with Z71 badging.

Stay tuned to the ELCO Chevrolet blog for updates as we learn more about the upcoming 2021 Silverado HD, and visit our main website for availability when it launches later this year.

Tips for taking care of your car while it sits still

Tips for taking care of your car while it sits still | ELCO Chevrolet | Ballwin, MO

There are times in our lives when we do not drive as much as we used to. Perhaps you are working from home now, or you recently retired. Whatever the reason, there are some easy ways to take care of your car while it stills for long stretches of time. Here are a few steps you can take to make sure that your vehicle still works the next time you need to drive it.

Take it for a short drive

Whether you use your car for your next trip to the grocery store or you just take a quick spin through Ballwin, Missouri, you should fire up the engine every couple of weeks to keep everything lubricated and moving. This will also help prevent your car battery from dying.

Don’t skip the maintenance

With an idle car, it is especially important not to skip any oil changes. Since you are not driving as much, you will want to use the time interval for your next oil change instead of the mileage suggestion.

Fill up the tank

You might be saving a lot of money by not buying as much gas, but you should still keep your tank full. A partially filled tank can start to form condensation, which can lead to rust. When you fill it up, that condensation can’t build, and your car will stay healthy for longer.

Whether your car is sitting still or just needs some attention, the certified service technicians at ELCO Chevrolet Cadillac are ready to make your vehicle as good as new.

The Last Chevy Impala has left the assembly line

Chevy Impala | ELCO Chevrolet | Ballwin, MO

With more drivers looking for versatile crossovers and SUVs in lieu of traditional sedans, Chevrolet announced its plans to discontinue the esteemed Impala some time ago. As of February 28, 2020, the last Chevy Impala had left the assembly line in the Detroit-Hamtramck plant, opening the way for a new era of electric vehicle production.

The Chevy Impala has been around for 60 years, proving again and again to be a popular pick all over the country, despite two prior discontinuations. It’s had appearances in many television series and movies, and has been a go-to model for U.S. law enforcement agencies. Throughout the years, the Impala continued to earn awards and accolades, garnering titles like “Best Large Car for the Money” by U.S. News.

Saying goodbye to the iconic Impala midsize sedan was a big step in Chevrolet’s plan to invest in the all-electric vehicle market. The company has dedicated $2.2 billion to converting the Detroit-Hamtramck plant into a facility dedicated to electric vehicle production. This plant is moving towards a bright future full of exciting new models, including the development of the all-new electric Hummer EV. It’s also set to produce the lineup of electrified Cadillac models, and other electric models from Chevrolet that may be on the horizon. Batteries for these vehicles will be built at the General Motors’ Ohio plant.

We hope that you’ll join all of us here at ELCO Chevrolet Cadillac in bidding the Impala a fond farewell as we look forward to an exciting new phase in automotive history.

Chevrolet Dominates early NASCAR® races

NASCAR Races | ELCO Chevrolet | Ballwin, MO

Chevrolet made quite an impression at the first NASCAR® races of the season. The brand only had to wait for the third race this year to see its drivers completely dominate the track.

Alex Bowman brought the first win, leading 110 laps of the total 200 laps in the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in March. Bowman was one of four different Chevy drivers in the top 10 of that race. He was followed by Kurt Busch in third place, Chase Elliott in fourth, and Jimmie Johnson in seventh.

The drivers had lots of praise to say about their Chevy vehicles, applauding things like the Camaro’s body, handling, and long run speed.

These talented drivers were invaluable to the team’s success at the Auto Club 400, but equally important were their partners: the high-performance, precision-engineered Chevrolet vehicles they drove. The good news for those of us who don’t have the pleasure of driving in NASCAR® is that these same standards are displayed in the 2020 lineup of Chevrolet vehicles.

Whether you choose to drive the sporty Camaro as your regular ride or opt for a more family-friendly vehicle like the Blazer crossover, you’ll see that there’s power, agility, and smooth handling across Chevy’s lineup.

While we hope you won’t start racing your new Chevy at NASCAR® speeds, we do believe that you’ll find your next favorite vehicle — whether it’s a truck or a family SUV — right here at ELCO Chevrolet Cadillac.

The First-Ever Mid-Engine Corvette Sold for $3 million at Auction

The First-Ever Mid-Engine Corvette Sold for $3 million at Auction | ELCO Chevrolet | Ballwin, MO

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is poised to usher in a new era for the American icon, marking the first time one of Chevy’s high-performance sports cars was built on a mid-engine platform. And the very first example of the new mid-engine Corvette sold earlier this year at the 2020 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a cool $3 million.

That $3 million will go to a very good cause. All proceeds benefit the Detroit Children’s Fund, which aims to improve the quality of schools in the city of Detroit. General Motors CEO Mary Barra was at the event to congratulate — and thank — the lucky winner. The new owner of the revolutionary supercar, in addition to receiving the world’s first production mid-engine Corvette, will also get a guided tour of the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

So who was the lucky winner of the $3 million 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? None other than famous racer, car collector, and NASCAR team owner, Rick Hendrick, who has bought a long list of famous Chevrolet models at this and other auctions over the years.

While $3 million is a hefty price tag, it is not large enough to make this Corvette the most expensive ever auctioned by Barrett-Jackson. That distinction belongs to a 1967 L88 Corvette Coupe, which fetched $3.85 million when it was auctioned in 2014.

While the first mid-engine Corvette to leave the assembly line already has an owner, you can experience the all-new supercar’s excellence right here at ELCO Chevrolet Cadillac when it hits lots later this year.

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are set to continue their market dominance

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban

The Tahoe and the Suburban are a dominant part of the SUV market, comprising 31 and 15 percent of last year’s sales for the entire segment, respectively. After the reveal of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban — which showcased the next generation of the lineup — you’ll find exciting new engine options, interior features, and more.

The 2021 SUV lineup comes with an updated pair of small-block V8 engines — which optimize performance without sacrificing fuel economy — as well as an independent rear suspension for optimal handling and ride comfort. You’ll also be able to opt for a new inline six-cylinder diesel engine for increased torque and impressive fuel efficiency.

“To prepare for this launch, we’ve invested more than $1.4 billion in Arlington since 2015, including an all-new paint shop, body shop, and many other state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “Which leads to my final point: the reason we invested in all of that and worked so hard to develop these new SUVs — we are here to win.”

While Chevrolet’s SUV design expertise dates back to 1935, the 2021 model year vehicles have a wide range of thoroughly modern innovations. You’ll find in-vehicle Wi-Fi connectivity, available wireless charging, access to phone apps, and more. Plus, with a bold exterior design update, the Tahoe and Suburban will turn heads wherever you go.

We can’t wait to see you here at ELCO Chevrolet Cadillac for an SUV revolution when the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban launch later this year.

Chevrolet was proud to celebrate 2019 as its fourth year partnering with the National Newspaper Publishers Association for the Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship. The fellowship selects a handful of students from historically black colleges and universities each year and offers them a scholarship and an opportunity to work with NNPA editors and reporters.

This year, Chevrolet and DTU chose six students for the 2019 Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship. Each student received a $10,000 scholarship from Chevrolet, as well as a $5,000 stipend. The six students were divided into two even teams, and each group was provided with a new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer to use for transportation during their assignments. With the guidance of staff from the NNPA, the students traveled to African American communities across the country to share uplifting stories from the places they visited.

The summer internship ran through the months of June and July, 2019. During this time, the 2019 DTU Journalism Fellows worked at publications such as The Washington Informer, Chicago Crusader, Atlanta Voice, and Houston Forward Times.

Since its first year in 2016, the DTU program has given out almost $400,000 in scholarships and stipends. The program has garnered attention as a remarkable career-building opportunity for HBCU students interested in working in industries like journalism and communications.
